Griff had spend all day in the forest, not that it was anything new. If he didn't have mail to deliver he could usually be found in the forest. Of course there was the rare cases were he had to leave what he saw as his sanctuary to steal things off of people in order to survive. But he tried not to do that a lot; since, it made him feel horrible. Something he hadn't felt when he had been in the world below. He had felt no remorse whenever he had stolen from the people in the world.

But in Aeon things were different. Perhaps because people up here seemed so kind and perhaps in some people's cases innocent. There was a part of him that didn't want to destroy that innocence he found in some people. It was clear from seeing those people that they didn't know the hardships that those who had been born in the world below had to endure. And if they did it was far and few in between. And it was easy to spot the people who had had their own share of hardships.

Letting out a sigh he stared down at his reflection reflected in the river. He could see the rocks at the bottom sparkling in the setting sun, and he wished he could focus on that instead of on his reflection. But that was hard to. He knew his appearance would draw attention if he headed into town, which was one of the reasons he tended to spend most of his time in the forest. Since no one else was around he wasn't wearing a contact to change the color of his left eye. The scar was the worst thing about his appearance, it was a constant reminder of what had happened six years back.

Vaughn found himself wandering the forest a lot more frequently than he had in the past. After discovering this...strange, innate ability to turn into an owl, he found himself more drawn into the wilderness that his matron had told him he'd once wandered out of. Absently, his teal eyes slid over the trees that surrounded him, as if he expected something to be there waiting for him. To indicate what route he needed to take, or what he was supposed to be doing.

Truth was, he was lost. Not physically, of course- Vaughn was far too intelligent to let himself get stuck in the woods like some wayward child- but mentally. He had returned to Aeon to search for a purpose. Surely there had to be something, with his ability coming to the surface so strangely and suddenly. Yet in the weeks he had been here since early Spring, he had found no such explanation, no helpful guide to tell him just what the hell this meant. He was stuck. Completely stuck.

A frustrated look passed over the man's features, glaring down from beneath his swath of ice-blue hair at his leather gloves. It was ridiculous. There had to be some sort of...meaning.
He glanced up, however, as he heard a sigh coming not too far away from him. Normally he wouldn't go wandering up to people and would continue minding his own business instead, but it wasn't like he had anything better to do.

"Good evening." he said evenly, his voice calm and placid like water as he saw the boy sitting at the riverside from behind. He had a shock of white hair atop his head and seemed to be rather...down. Not that that was Vaughn's problem. "The sun will be setting soon. I'd suggest you head back to town lest you get lost." he advised, expression blank.

Griff was still staring at his reflection but that didn't mean he wasn't aware of his surroundings. The second another person's voice reached him he straightened so he was no longer looking into the water below him. While he had only moments before been relaxed his body seemed to stiffen. He didn't know what he should do. He toyed with the idea that he could go throughout this whole meeting without the other seeing his face. He was use to people having pretty negative reactions to his face, but he wasn't really in the mood to deal with them now.

"Good evening," he greeted in return, his response was delivered in a blunt tone but that was his usual way of speaking. He wasn't use to talking to people and the fact his voice was slightly scratchy with disuse was proof of that. Hearing the other males response he had to resist the urge to let out a derisive snort. Usually he wouldn't care about rather he was rude or not, but if the other male was one of those complainer types he wasn't really in the mood for it.

But he doubted he would be able to go the whole conversation without insulting the other male. It was just the kind of person he was after all. He just didn't know how to properly express himself, which was what led him to being rude most of the time. "I know the forest like the back of my hand," was all he said on the matter. Though he couldn't see the other male his own expression devoid of emotion. But he did have a tendency to hold his emotions at arms length and didn't really know how to deal with emotions his or others.

"I've never seen anyone else out here this late though. Do you visit the forest often?" he asked, turning slightly towards the other but not enough for his scar to be visible. He was still hoping he could make it through the meeting without his scar being shown but considering his luck, it would soon be revealed.

A child. Vaughn wasn't really surprised, but he was certainly curious. He had been discovered in these woods as a small child so many years ago- granted, this boy looked to be a teenager, not a toddler. He had an unusual appearance, that was for certain. Vaughn couldn't help but to wonder just what was up with him.
"I see." he said simply as the boy retorted that he knew the forest backwards and forwards, which earned an absent shrug from the taller male. Well, he wasn't the boy's guardian. What he did in his spare time wasn't any of Vaughn's business, and if he got lost out here and died then he would get what was coming to him.

He thought that would be the end of that and he turned to go, figuring the boy was one of those types that didn't speak unless he had to (much like Vaughn himself) but then the boy did pipe up, asking him about the forest and how frequently he came. Vaughn paused, his lips pursing into a very slight frown.

He wasn't about to admit it was because he was without purpose and he needed to figure out what was going on in his life, that he had just up and suddenly learned he could turn into an owl and while that was pretty interesting, he still didn't know what the hell it meant. He turned his gaze slowly back to the teenager, giving a small breath.
"I suppose not. Though I have only been living here for a few weeks now." he said absently, his leather-clad fingers moving slowly over some of the bark of the tree he was nearest. "There is solitude here. It helps me think."
